A Passion for Software Engineering and Cyber Security.
I am Aran Jannson, a Computer Science and Cyber Security graduate from the University of Surrey, with a First-Class Honours BSc in Computer Science and an MSc in Cyber Security. I am now beginning a PhD in Open Secure Communications Networks as part of the CDT-FORT programme, with research interests in cyber security, secure communications, post-quantum cryptography and practical security solutions for modern and emerging systems. As a British Turkish Cypriot with a multicultural background, I spent most of my life in Cyprus before relocating to the UK in 2022. I am fluent in both English and Turkish.

My Story
Research & Interests
During my MSc, my research focused on the formal verification and practical implementation of post-quantum multi-server authentication. This involved post-quantum key establishment (ML-KEM), biometric authentication, fuzzy extraction and formal security analysis in ProVerif, which uncovered a denial-of-service vulnerability, alongside a working proof-of-concept system built with Python and FastAPI, a physical fingerprint scanner and emulated smart cards. My current work brings together software engineering, cyber security, cryptography and secure communications, with a particular focus on developing and evaluating technologies that address emerging security challenges.
Teaching & Development
Alongside cyber security, I maintain a strong interest in software and web application development. At the University of Surrey I supported undergraduate students as a lab helper, initially within Web and Database Systems and then across broader computing modules, and I am now a Lab Demonstrator for undergraduate and postgraduate labs, including Privacy Enhancing Technologies. This has strengthened both my technical understanding and my ability to explain complex concepts clearly. I also built and ran the websites for Team Surrey Karting and the Surrey Computing Society.
Green Tech Jam Award
I was awarded second place (£1,000) in the Green Tech Jam 2024 competition for my Software Engineering Project, Eunoias, a workforce mental-health platform with role-based dashboards for employees, managers, counsellors and moderators. The award recognised the team's ability to collaborate and develop innovative solutions within the field of green technology.
